Our Story...

 

 

My name is Rachel Young and I am a budding PR Professional.  Judging by my youth, it wouldn’t be too hard to know that I would end up in this profession- I have a long history of raising awareness about those causes which are close to my heart. Whether it was sending a viral video around Facebook, trying to get a story written in the school paper or planning events to draw attention to whatever I was trying to change that week, I did it with a smile and unfaltering passion. Little did I know that this would become the building blocks for a career that I truly love.

 

 

 

I received my Bachelors degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. I entered my college career believing that I was destined to be a journalist; my passion and ability to express myself through the written word seemed perfect for the task. I declared my first major in Editing, Writing and Media. As a relatively new area of study, my professors taught me much about rhetoric, delivery and the art of persuasion. After realizing that my true passion lied with marketing and consulting, I began my secondary major in Media and Communication Studies.  This gave the foundations of my Editing, Writing and Media education a more defined direction by educating me on the possibilities of communicating in today's business environment. I believe that this overlap in study areas has gifted me with abilities, knowledge and foresight that many others do not. I aim to earn a Masters degree in Public Relations within the next few years, with the ultimate goal of actively and positively changing how Public Affairs, health, sustainability and Non Profit matters are perceived by the public.

 

I created this portfolio to be an introduction to myself and the work I have done. By giving contextualized examples of work that I am particularly proud of, it is my hope that will be able to see all that I am able to do in the areas of media and communication. These documents represent many, many hours of hard work, strategy, study and careful composition- but this portfolio is not exhaustive. There are many aspects of my work in Public Relations that are intangible and difficult to record, such as my above average work ethic, attention to detail and ability to grow. I know my coworkers and the people around me would be happy to agree.
